The sour cream & onion flavor and Herr’s competitors have evolved dramatically over the decades. For me, Herr’s was a case study of what sour cream and onion could be – almost milky in its sourness, the crisp peaks covered with flavor while the valleys offered a nice break from the sometimes-too-much zest of this now-classic, and ubiquitous, flavor pairing. And it strikes me that a particular hankering is required to savor this flavor, which can often wear out its welcome, especially if too strongly seasoned or too oniony, in general.Īs a youngin’, the shiny green packaging of Herr’s lunch and family-size offerings burned an indelible mark in my psyche. Though not a personal favorite in the flavored potato chip spectrum, I have certainly dabbled in the sour cream realm from time to time. Pack some sort of hand-wiping device (sleeves at minimum) and gum, please. When paired with the chicken, it tastes just like sour cream and onion dip.If you’re a sour cream & onion chips-oriented human then you always have to come prepared. This ensures that the chicken gets browned and crispy on both sides.įor a super simple dipping sauce, just add some chopped scallions to sour cream. Bake at 450 for 20 minutes after 10 minutes, flip the pieces and spray the other side.įor both methods, the chicken should be flipped and sprayed again halfway through the cooking process. Spray the rack with cooking spray, and lay the breaded tenders on top. Place a wire rack on top of a baking sheet. (Work in two batches to not overcrowd the tenders). Halfway through, flip the tenders and spray the other side. Spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray and add the breaded chicken pieces. Then, simply dip each tender into the egg whites, followed by the breading mixture. Pour the egg whites into a shallow bowl, and then pour the onion soup mix and panko into another bowl, and mix them together. Here is a video on how to remove the tendon quickly and easily. You can make this recipe in the air fryer, or in your oven. You can also use chicken breast tenderloins if you prefer, since we will be cutting the chicken into tenders anyway.
